Throughout this pandemic period there has been one psalm that has been repeatedly quoted and that is Psalm 91, a psalm of protection for those who love the Lord. There is one verse that has struck me as being prophetic for the UK at this time - verse 7 says "A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee" and in verse 10 "neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling". The best protection for any nation to receive at this time is in having faith in the saving grace of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. This is where we need to see the masses turning to Him, for those who do not believe in Jesus, what hope do they have? It makes me so grateful that my whole family and myself have our Christian faith to hold onto with the reassurance of our Father's love, we know whatever happens we have a destiny away from all harm, disease and suffering.
So why should psalm 91 be prophetic for the UK right now? Looking at the number of recorded deaths during the Easter weekend I noticed two things, firstly on Good Friday the 10th of April it was announced that 980 had died in the last 24hrs. the greatest number in one day since the outbreak and just short by 20 of the "1,000 falling at thy side" - and then on Easter Sunday an update of the total number of deaths in the UK from day one had now exceeded 10,000 the same number as mentioned in verse 7 "and ten thousand to your right hand." This really touched me and I felt certain it wasn't coincidence, especially as the peak of fatalities had come over the Easter period. I took this in prayer and asked the Lord about it and I had a real sense that in the days and weeks ahead we would be able to look back and say Christ on the cross was the point at which Coronavirus in Britain at last stopped it's increasing advance. The cross and the blood of Jesus has been the stopping point. On Wednesday this week on the 15th of April, Chris Whitty announced at a meeting for the press that Coronavirus overall had probably reached it's peak. Certainly there does seem to be a receding number of deaths on a daily count, on average around 800 a day. Just as I am writing this, today's newsflash has popped up with 888 recorded deaths over the last 24 hours. Well here's an interesting thought 888 is also the number of Christ reminding us that He died so that our sins could be forgiven and to take away all our infirmities and diseases.
Matthew 8:17 - This was to fulfil what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: "He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases."
One final thought for today. For anyone who is presently mourning for a lost loved one or knows of others close to them who are affected by Coronavirus, please be assured of my concern in what I write. Numbers of casualties are not being quoted without due consideration of the hundreds of individuals and their families who are caught up in the horrific and terrifying circumstances they find themselves in. We are praying for you to know the comfort and healing that Christ brings. Yes today's blog reflects my personal belief that Christ can and will bring an end to all suffering here on earth. Answer to prayer can come rapidly, please stand with me today in belief that Jesus has already intervened, that He reigns in Glory, death and the fear of death is no match for the Love of God.
